A urinary tract infection is an infection that can affect one or several parts of the urinary system: kidneys, ureter, bladder and urethra. It most often manifests by pain or a burning sensation when urinating, sometimes by abdominal pain and fever. Urinary tract infections are among the most common bacterial infections. They affect 25% of women on a regular basis. The regular intake of cranberries can reduce the risk of recurrent infections, thus decreasing the use of antibiotics.
