Nervous System Support Supplements
A steady nervous system shows up as better focus by day and easier wind-down at night. Nervous system support supplements include magnesium, which helps maintain proper muscle and nerve function; B-complex vitamins that help the body metabolize nutrients and support normal nervous system function; GABA and L-theanine, which help temporarily promote relaxation; and adaptogenic botanicals traditionally used to help the body adapt to everyday stress.

Our naturopaths favour forms that are gentle on digestion and well absorbed, such as magnesium bisglycinate and active B vitamins, and they check that each product is practitioner-grade and licensed with a Health Canada NPN. Brands that publish third-party testing for purity are preferred where they state it, and doses are chosen to match clinical use rather than marketing.
Top brands in this category include NFH, ATP Lab, Cymbiotika and BETR1. Best sellers are NFH Magnesium SAP, NFH B-Complex SAP and NFH GABA-T SAP.

Frequently asked questions
Which magnesium is best for relaxation?
Magnesium bisglycinate is the form our naturopaths reach for most often because it is gentle on the stomach and well absorbed. Citrate is a good option if regularity is also a goal. L-threonate is typically chosen when cognitive support is the priority.
Can I take B vitamins at night?
B vitamins support energy metabolism, so most people take them in the morning or with lunch. If you notice they feel stimulating, move them earlier. Magnesium and GABA, by contrast, are usually taken in the evening.
Do adaptogens work right away?
Adaptogenic botanicals are traditionally taken daily over several weeks rather than as a one-off. Most clients reassess after four to eight weeks. Because botanicals can interact with medications, review your plan with a health care practitioner before starting.
