Since higher activities are not naturally found, some other companies artificially achieve their higher Manuka activity levels and knowingly represent them in a misleading fashion. The abnormally high activity level is commonly obtained through intentionally manipulating the honey, such as exposing it to harmful high heat and cold temperatures, which KILLS the beneficial bee enzymes in the process as well as denaturing the vitamins, minerals and nutrients. As a result, their Manuka honey cannot be 100% unpasteurized (raw), since it becomes either somewhat or fully pasteurized. A dangerous side effect of this common practice is that the deceptive man-made alteration of the Manuka honey activity can render it to have adverse results, rather than preserving the integrity of its true purpose in serving as a holistic, natural, pure, organic, unpasteurized and fully bio-available health and wellness supplement.
Manuka honey is known to destroy many strains of bacteria including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, , and the infamous “Superbug” methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Especially exciting is Manuka honey’s ability to inhibit the growth of Helicobacter pylori, the stomach bacteria known to be associated with causing stomach ulcers.
The Manuka pollen is collected by honeybees from the medicinal Manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium). The bush only produces flowers for approximately 2 to 6 weeks out of the year and comes from the same plant family as the Tea Tree in Australia. This is one of the main reasons why the Manuka honey is highly regarded as a great product to use internally. Therefore, it is a natural and easily convenient solution to aid in the complex aspects of digestive maintenance.
